TEATRO! is a theatre company based in the Harvard community, whose purpose is to provide practical experience on all aspects of live theater (artistic and technical), with assistance from those knowledgeable and/or experienced in the dramatic arts, in an educational and recreational atmosphere.
All activities of TEATRO! are undertaken for the primary purpose of stimulating interest and support in Hispanic/Latino, Spanish, bilingual or Hispanic-influenced theatre on the Harvard campus and the Boston community. These goals are achieved through the sponsorship and production of plays, community events, related theatre fundraising events and other theatrical endeavors.
Harvard College TEATRO!, in collaboration with the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, is pleased to present a faculty panel following the Thursday showing of La Casa!
Federico y Bernarda: Women, Spanish Society, and the Civil War
featuring Professors Brad Epps and Mary Gaylord
Thursday, April 14 following the 8pm performance of “La Casa”
Join us as we discuss the play in its literary and historical context, and particularly the plight of women in traditional Spanish society. We will also consider Federico García Lorca as a gay man writing about women, and life in a country on the brink of the biggest tragedy in its history.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided. The panel is expected to begin soon after 9:30pm and last a half-hour. The panel is free and open to the public.
